Fleuron 1.0 · iPhone and iPad · iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 or later
Write to hello@fleuron.page. One person makes Fleuron and one person answers that address, usually within a couple of days. Say which version you are on — Settings → About → Version — and what you were doing when it went wrong.
Adding a book
Fleuron reads EPUB files. It does not read Kindle's AZW or KFX, PDFs, or DRM-protected books from another store — those are locked by their sellers, and no reader outside that store can open them.
- Tap Add Book on the home screen and pick the file from Files, iCloud Drive, or wherever you keep it.
- Public-domain books in EPUB are free from Project Gutenberg and Standard Ebooks.
- Fleuron ships with sample books in Japanese, Korean and Chinese so you can try the reader before importing anything.
A book is analysed once, when you add it: segmentation, difficulty, readings and the Compass index all run then, so that turning a page later is instant. A long book can take a minute. You can leave the screen while it works.
Lens, Compass, and the Notebook
- Lens puts a short meaning above words it judges you may not know, without changing the layout of the page. Its density is a setting: Settings → Reading Defaults → Lens Density.
- Compass is the cast of the book — people, places and terms — described only from what you have already read, so it cannot spoil what is ahead.
- The Notebook holds your notes, highlights and saved words, and the review schedule that brings the words back at widening intervals.
Both Lens and Compass can be turned off under Settings → Intelligence. On devices without Apple's on-device models they fall back to Fleuron's bundled dictionaries, which are less contextual but always available and always offline.
Narration
Read-aloud works out of the box, using the voices already on your iPhone or iPad. Nothing is downloaded, and nothing needs to be set up.
Under Settings → Voices you can pick a different system voice — iOS and iPadOS ship Enhanced and Premium versions of most voices, and they sound markedly better than the compact ones you get by default. Fleuron will tell you when a better version of the voice you are using exists; the operating system downloads those itself, from Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content, because an app is not allowed to fetch them for you.
The same screen offers Supertonic, an optional neural voice that runs entirely on your device and sounds more natural again. It is a one-time ~400 MB download, so use Wi-Fi, and it is genuinely optional — narration works fully without it. If the download fails partway it can be retried from the same screen.
Purchases
- Fleuron is free to download, with one book of your own. The one-time unlock lifts that limit permanently. It is not a subscription; nothing recurs.
- New device, or reinstalled? Tap Restore Purchases on the unlock screen, signed in to the same Apple Account. Nothing is charged again.
- Restore found nothing? Check you are signed in to the Apple Account that made the purchase — a family member's account or a second Apple Account is the usual cause.
- Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue one ourselves — but if something is broken, tell us and we will fix it.
Your data
Fleuron has no account and no server: your books, notes, highlights and saved words live on your device only. That means nothing to sign in to, and also that a lost device is a lost library unless you have an iOS or iPadOS backup. The full account is in the privacy policy.
Something is wrong
Send us the details rather than a star rating — we can act on the first. What helps most:
- The version, from Settings → About → Version.
- Your device and iOS or iPadOS version.
- What you did, what happened, and what you expected instead.
- For a book that fails to open or renders oddly: where it came from. If it is public-domain, a link to it lets us reproduce the problem exactly.
- For a wrong definition, reading or character description: a screenshot. Fleuron is built never to teach something wrong, so these are bugs, and we want them.
